Lectures

So after a quick three weeks I have attended a total of ten lectures, both online and on campus, and participated in three workshops for the EDN113 unit. Over this time I have look at Authentic Learning, Digital Citizenship and how to feature others work in an online environment.

Unfortunately I have not found any of these topics from the first three weeks interesting. I want to be a dedicated independent learner, but I need to find a way to direct my attention to the relevant topics on hand.

For those of you who are wondering what authentic learning is; it is a way of teaching that prepares the students for real life experiences. The teacher in a classroom acts as a supervisor or event manager instead of a dictator. The work and projects that each student will complete are directed towards lifelong skills that can be used for community events.

Me ten years ago - Calista Primary School
With this being the future of education I honestly think that students are going to be more interested in what they learn than what I was given nearly ten years ago.

Completed Web Page and Blog

Finally! I have completed both my blog and website, and I never want to have to do that again. After researching the many different Website technology I decided to use Weebly simply because it had the best reviews on how simple it is to use it. But it wasn’t. I guess it’s like anything you learn to do it is difficult to start with.

It took me some time to decide on the lay out of my webpage. Just like my blog I wanted it to be personal but still look like a professional website at the same time. On the other hand I wanted to make both the blog and website work hand in hand so that if someone we to visit my blog after being on the website there would be a sense of cohesiveness between the two. I did this by using a similar theme of the beach and water to make the two as simular as possible.
The home page to my website.

After spending a solid 3 hours getting everything the way I wanted and sorting out the disappearing blog button I published my website for the public to see. Only to wake up with a surprise of 39 views on my page over night! Yes that right, out of the blue, 39 views I couldn’t believe it. Little did I know that a link from my web page managed to get on to my Facebook page. Some of my lovely friends and family decided to have a look. If you would also like to have a look Its called Kaytlin's EDN113 Adventure.

Other Blogs on the Internet

Ok so I haven’t been the best at the whole blogging once a week thing, but there is always time for improvement. Over the past week and a bit I have taken the time to look at other blogs on the internet, from Beauty and Fashion to Travel and even Education.

One Blog by Zoe Sugg also known as Zoella has a Beauty andFashion blog created by blogger. The moment you arrive on the page it is extremely easy to look at what you want and there are a range of tabs to go to other sections of the blog. Overall this would be the exact lay out I would like to achieve for my blog towards the end of this unit.

I’m still trying to wrap my head around all of the setting with both my blog and website. Feel free to go over and have a little sneak peak at my website, sorry I can’t guarantee anything fancy but at least I have started.
I hope someone is reading this, if so please comment.

Week One

After a long week of trying to wrap my head around this whole blogging thing I've decided to just post something. This Blog will be a recorded journey of what  have learnt and how I have coped through the Murdoch University unit  EDN113 - Living and Learning with Technology . There are too many blog technologies out there to choose from but, I have decided to go for Blogger purely for the fact that it is said to be the easiest to use.

Murdoch University Handbook
Despite what they say I didn't find it as easy as everyone says. I don't know if that is because I was trying to make the design of it reflect my personality but still look professional at the same time or if it was because I don't know what I'm doing. Either way my boyfriend has been sitting here laughing at me for the past hour.

I'm nervous to see how I go with my website design and layout but we will see how it goes. Hope this blogging thing goes well and I managed to stay on top of weekly posts, Hey who knows I might start a blog of my whole University journey!
